Qatar’s Al-Attiyah wins Dakar Rally’s 9th stage COPIAGO: Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar won the ninth stage of the Dakar Rally on Monday, cutting into the overall lead of Volkswagen teammate Carlos Sainz of Spain.

Al-Attiyah finished almost six minutes ahead of Sainz in one hour 59 minutes 28 seconds.
Sainz's overall lead is down to just 8:36 with five stages remaining. The rally ends Saturday where it began in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires.

In the motorbike category, Spain's Marc Coma won the 338-kilometre stage from Copiapo to La Serena. KTM teammate Cyril Despres has the overall lead.
