No need to place tax defaulters on ECL: FBR
Updated at: 1852 PST,  Wednesday, January 13, 2010
ISLAMABAD: Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Sohail Ahmed has said that there is no need to put names of 2.5 million tax defaulters on the Exit Control List.

Talking to media here in Islamabad, he said FBR has collected taxes worth Rs580 billion during Jul-Dec 2009, while an addition of Rs3 billion is expected.

He further said sudden action would start against non-taxpayers while audit of various departments is underway. Moreover, the FBR is in contact with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in this regard.

He said the government is planning to withdraw 8 percent sales tax on sugar.
