Updated at: 0651 PST, Thursday, January 20, 2011 WELLINGTON: The New Zealand parliament in central Wellington was evacuated and surrounding streets cordoned off Thursday after a suspicious package was found near the building, police said.
Police said a suitcase was found in bushes near the distinctive building, known as the Beehive, early Thursday afternoon.
"Specialist police are currently travelling to the scene to examine the package," police said.
