SL to tour Pakistan in two phases: SL sports minister
Updated at: 0016 PST,  Sunday, January 04, 2009
SL to tour Pakistan in two phases: SL sports minister COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s sports minister Gamini Lokoge said that the tour of Pakistan would be in two phases and its approval would be given after consulting with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The sports minister said that the Sri Lankan team may tour Pakistan for five One-day Internationals and a Twenty20 match after returning from Bangladesh.

He said that after playing five ODIs against India in late January, the Sri Lankan team may be available again to tour Pakistan in the second week of February for a three-Test series.

However, the final approval of the series would depend on the Pakistan Cricket Board, he added.

The Sri Lankan sports minister’s statement has come at a time when the Indian cricket board has expressed its desire to play a five-ODI series in India.

Earlier, the Sri Lankan cricket board had presented an instance that the ir players wanted to take rest after the tour of Bangladesh and therefore requested to reduce the number of matches in Pakistan.

Chief operating officer PCB Saleem Altaf was not available for commenting on this statement while director-general PCB Javed Miandad was also not available.
