Death toll in Orakzai Jirga blast mounts to 48, scores injured PESHAWAR: Death toll in Orakzai Jirga suicide blast has mounted to 48 and over 100 were left injured.

Police said that a suicide bomber blew himself up at a Jirga here in Adezai area in Orakzai on Friday.

The Jirga meeting was being held mainly to form a tribal Lashkr for ensuring a clampdown on terrorist activities in the area. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.

After the suicide blast the tribesmen present on the occasion helped in rescue work and shifted dead bodies and those who sustained injuries to the hospitals with other rescue workers.

Fifteen more injured were said to be critical in condition meanwhile 9 injured succumbed to their injures on the way as they were being shifted to Kohat and Hango hospitals after first aid treatment in Hadizai hospital some minutes after the blast took place, Hadizai hospital sources said.

Eyewitness Shahid Maraj Gul said that as many as 3000 people from Ali Zai tribe were present at the Jirga.

According to another witnesses, difficulty was being faced earlier in shifting the wounded to medical facilities due to the ensuing firing in the area.

Emergency was declared at hospitals in Kohat and Hangu after the explosion.
