NEW YORK: Like every year, this year too people of the United States celebrated the Columbus Day on 12th October. Many offices and educational institutions declared holiday on that day.
Columbus Day Parade is a major attraction of the day. Thousands of people from different ranks of the society joined the parade. Politicians had also participated in the parade and had tried to gain some momentum from it.
Some of the high profile politicians were seen in the Columbus Day Parade of New York. Kenneth G. Langone had participated in the parade of Columbus Day. The same parade also had Governor David A. Paterson. Michael R. Bloomberg, the mayor also had joined the parade.
Columbus Day Parade at Chicago also had numerous participants. All had gathered to walk and pay tribute to Christopher Columbus who had come to America on this day.
This was the 57th year of Chicago Parade. The parade was televised on some of the television channels so that people do not miss it. People at Manhattan celebrated their 65th Columbus Day Parade on Monday 12th October. Students from different educational institutions of the country were seen in the parade. All were enjoying the parade and celebrating one more anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s coming to America.
Columbus Day is a special day for the citizens of the United States. From the year 1971, this day was marked as a federal holiday. All federal agencies, postal services as well as several government organizations remain closed in this day. Multiple services are not available on Columbus Day. However, the stock exchange of the country functions like any other day. |  |
