Life ban on Saleem Malik lifted
Updated at: 1749 PST,  Thursday, October 23, 2008
Life ban on Saleem Malik lifted LAHORE: The local court of Lahore has announced a decision to lift the life ban on Saleem Malik’s playing cricket and abolish the imposition of fine on him.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had requested the government after the World Cup 1999 to hold an enquiry against former Pakistan captain Saleem Malik for his involvement in match fixing on which the government sent the case to the Lahore High Court for judicial enquiry.

The then chief justice of the Lahore High Court established a single-member judicial commission of Justice Malik Mohammad Qayyum.

The commission announced its verdict in 2000 to impose a life ban on Saleem Malik and ordered him to pay a fine of one million rupees.

Saleem Malik challenged the decision first in the civil court and later in the high court from where his petitions were acquitted.

Then he approached to the Supreme Court, which sending the case back directed the civil court to decide it within two months.

Now, the civil court completing the hearing of the case has ended the life ban on Saleem Malik for playing cricket.
