PM lays foundation of Pak-China friendship, cultural complex BEIJING: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani here Friday laid the foundation stone of Pakistan-China friendship and cultural complex here. Later, the PM held talks with his Malaysian counterpart Abdullah Ahmed Badawi on the sidelines of Asia-Europe Meeting in Beijing.

Prime Minister Gilani arrived here on Thursday for a three-day visit to attend the 7th Asia- Europe summit.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Gilani said the bilateral relationship between China and Pakistan is unique and multidimensional. He hoped that the complex will serve as another milestone in their ever-green relationship.

He further hoped that his presence in the ceremony will help promote and deepen the people to people contacts between the two countries. The Prime minister thanked the Chinese government for donating a piece of land for this purpose in the heart of the city.

He expressed the hope that the Complex will act as a dynamic platform for cultural projection and interaction among our two peoples. Prime Minister Gilani said the government of Pakistan will provide Rs. 100 million for the construction of the project.

Later, Premier Gilani and Malaysian PM Badawi reiterated their resolve to boost their bilateral ties in political, social and economic sectors. The two prime ministers reviewed their bilateral cooperation and agreed to accelerate the process of implementing the projects already undertaken by the two countries, especially in the agriculture sector.

Malaysian Prime Minister said the two countries would continue maintaining close contacts for promoting peace, security and development at the regional and international level for the well being of their people.

In the field of manpower, he said Malaysia will acquire services of 1000 skilled workers from Pakistan. He hoped training process of these workers should be started immediately.

Pakistan had joined the ASEM in 2006 but attending the important conference for the first time. The conference is aimed at enhancing ties between Europe and Asia. The ASEM comprises of 27 European, 10 ASEAN and six Asian countries.

Apart from attending the ASEM summit, Premier Gilani will hold bilateral talks with Chinese leadership. He will also exchange views on bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest with European and Asian leaders.
