China to attend finance crisis summit in US next month
Updated at: 2234 PST,  Friday, October 24, 2008
BEIJING: Chinese President Hu Jintao said Friday China will attend a summit next month in Washington on tackling the global financial crisis, according to a senior French official.

"President Hu told me that China will be happy to participate in the summit, but he didn't say at what level," the official said.

He added there was "no doubt whatsoever" about Chinese participation in the gathering in Washington, scheduled to gather the world's richest nations and biggest emerging economies on November 15.

The gathering will be within the framework of the Group of 20, created in 1999, which accounts for 90 percent of the world economy and about two-thirds of the world's population.

The global financial turmoil was also a top agenda item as more than 40 Asian and European leaders started two days of talks Friday in Beijing.
