NEW DELHI: Australia succeeded in making 338 runs for the loss of four wickets in reply to India’s 613-7 declared in the first innings of the third Test here on Friday.
India are still 275 runs ahead in the first innings when play ended on the third day here at the Feroze Shah Kotla stadium.
Australia resumed their innings at 50-0 on the third day with Hayden and Katich providing a solid stand of 123 runs, their highest opening stand of the series.
Matthew Hayden scored 83 and Simon Katich made 64 while captain Ricky Ponting hit 87 and Michael Hussey slammed 53.
Michael Clarke was batting on 21 with Shane Watson on four at close.
Part-time off-spinner Virender Sehwag picked three key wickets to thwart Australia's grim fightback. |  |
