Updated at: 0911 PST,  Monday, October 04, 2010
Origami-style cash dowry a hit in Indonesian weddings JAKARTA: Giving a dowry is a traditional custom at Islamic weddings in Indonesia, and a dowry can be given in gifts or in cash.

And one housewife offers a distinctive service for grooms. She fashions money into original origami artwork.

Roses, butterflies, a couple dressed in traditional wedding costume are some of the designs that are made. The bills are folded and arranged in two or three-dimensional frames.

Duhitha Swastihayu, an Origami Artist says, "The ideas for origami can come from anywhere. I can get them from the Internet, or customers would bring an example. Many times they want me to make something new. One day, a customer asked if I could make a mountain from money. This was a challenge for me. How can I make a mountain, or butterfly out of money."

She uses the Internet to promote her business.

Duhitha Swastihayu says, "I created a website for this. I purchased a web hosting for a domain name. I uploaded all of my works to the website. It's as simple as that."

Her business grew faster than she expected.

Each origami piece costs anywhere from about $60 to as much as $100.
