NEW DELHI: Dispute of lifting Pakistan flag during march-past at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games has been resolved in a pleasant manner here on Monday.
President Pakistan Olympic Association Lt Gen ( R ) Arif Hasan dispelled misunderstanding between weight-lifting team and chief-de-mission of the Pakistan contingent Dr Mohammad Ali Shah after which the players assured to take part in the event according to schedule.
Sources said that the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) had named weight-lifter Shujauddin for leading the Pakistan contingent with national flag as he had won gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games but chief-de-mission Dr Shah began leading the contingent with the flag in his hand.
Protesting on his act, the weight-lifting team had threatened to withdraw from the event.
However, the POA president who was present in New Delhi met with the players and the chief-de-mission and resolved the issue.
Talking with Geo News, Dr Mohammad Ali Shah said that misunderstanding between both parties has now been removed and the players would participate in the event according to the schedule.
He assured that no such unpleasant incident would take place in the Games. |
