| GEO Pakistan | | Danish student held in Iran | Updated at: 1659 PST, Friday, November 06, 2009 COPENHAGEN: A Danish journalism student has been arrested in Iran after reporting on rallies in Tehran earlier this week, the Danish union of journalists said Friday.
One Japanese and two Canadian journalists were also arrested, along with an Iranian working for "satellite channels," after reporting without permission on the same events, the Iranian news agency said on Friday.
"The Danish journalist who had disappeared has been located in an Iranian jail," the union said in a statement.
Niels Krosgaard, a 31 year-old journalism student, was freelancing in Iran for a project related to his studies, a union official said.
"He was arrested at an anti-government protest in Teheran Wednesday," Troels Johannesen told a foreign news agency, adding he did not have any details on the student's condition.
Denmark's foreign ministry said it had been informed of the case by the union.
It confirmed to the agency that a Danish journalist had disappeared in Iran, but could not immediately say if the reporter had been arrested.
The Danish journalist's union had requested assistance from the Brussels-based International Federation of Journalists following the student's arrest.
The annual commemoration in Teheran of the November 4, 1979 storming of the US embassy by Islamist students was overshadowed on Wednesday by a counter-demonstration by critics of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's June re-election. | |
