Updated at: 1733 PST,  Wednesday, December 10, 2008
Pak ready to send delegation to India to normalise situation: PM MULTAN: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Wednesday that Pakistan was ready to send a high level delegation to India to normalize the situation. While talking to the media persons at the local airport soon after his arrival, PM said that Pakistan has begun investigations after taking some leaders and members of banned outfits in custody adding that it was a good gesture Pakistan has shown to the whole world including the neighbouring country. Law will take its own course in the light of investigations, he added.

Gilani said that as far as the Indian intelligence is concerned, whatever information or list they send, we would investigate it.

To a question, Gilani said that chances of improvement in situation are always maximum when a political and democratic government is at the helm of affairs.

When asked about arrest of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and Zarrar Shah, the PM said he would not comment on the matter till the completion of investigations process, however, confirmed that they have been arrested.

PM reiterated Pakistan’s stance that government will not allow its territory to be used by terrorists. “I want to assure the people and the whole world that we will not allow Pakistan soil to be utilized by terrorists.”

The premier said that terrorism is a global phenomenon and India was not alone in facing it adding that terrorists have no religion and respect no boundaries. In addition to Indian people, US nationals, Britons, Austrians, Israeli people also lost their lives in the Mumbai tragedy, PM added. We sympathise with the victims of Mumbai attacks and strongly condemn terrorism, Gilani said.

Pakistan’s commitment to root out terrorism is beyond doubt and its resolve is strong, PM said adding that we are taking steps in the best interests of the people and the country.

PM commended the Foreign Ministry’s efforts in defusing tensions and added that Pakistan is not isolated and has many friends in the world who want to help. Our foreign policy is the best, he added.

Gilani said that Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state and its reaction to events is always cautious. “We do not jump to conclusions without investigations,” PM said when a journalist asked that India was repeatedly accusing Pakistan but Pakistan did not do so despite occurrence of Marriot hotel bombings and Karachi violence. PM also lauded Pakistani media for behaving in a responsible manner.

To another question, Gilani said that Pakistani armed forces are one of the few professional armies of the world and there is no need to worry.
