 LAHORE: The government has placed the chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) Hafiz Muhammad Saeed under house arrest for a period of three months on Thursday.
The government of Pakistan has also started clamping down offices of JuD and other banned outfits across the country. According to well-placed sources, the JuD chief was put under house arrest for three months in Lahore and a contingent of police was deployed at his residence.
Police began closing the offices of Jamaat-ud-Dawa across the country after the UN Security Council on Thursday declared the organisation a terrorist group.
The assets of JuD and of the nine leaders have been frozen, the senior government official said, and their names will also be placed on the exit control list to prevent them from leaving the country.
The regional offices of Jamaat have also been sealed in Karachi, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Azad Kashmir. |  |
