PESHAWAR: NWFP’s Chief Minister Amir Haider Hoti has said that peace cannot be restored in the tribal areas without introducing political reforms.
Speaking at a lawyers’ convention here, Chief Minister Hoti said the people of NWFP and security forces are rendering sacrifices in the war against terrorism. He said we should be prepared to offer more sacrifices in this regard.
Hoti was of the view that situation in Waziristan had started to deteriorate after 9/11. This fire would not have engulfed the whole country if we had addressed the situation at that time, he said. It was a joint mistake from our part to overlook the situation, he said and added that current challenges needed to be dealt with irrespective of the political affiliation.
The chief minister said that lawyers’ movement aimed at independent judiciary and restoration of democracy had become a part of the history. | |
