ISLAMABAD: SAARC countries have decided to increase trade volume by 25 per cent within the region in two years.

Talking to Geo News here on Wednesday, commerce ministry’s officials said the meeting, which was attended by SAARC commerce and trade secretaries, adopted the Pakistani proposal to reduce by 20 per cent the sensitive lists and increase the volume of regional trade by 25 per cent for the benefit of the people.

The sensitive lists will be reduced in such a way that those items will be put forward which would be helpful in increasing the trade volume.

It was also decided to give incentives to the Least Developed Countries of the region by opening markets for their products, he said.

A meeting of SAARC commerce ministers will be held in Colombo by the end of this month to give further impetus to these decisions.
