District Nazims development funds released: Taseer LAHORE: Governor Punjab Salman Taseer Saturday announced that frozen development funds of all District Nazims have been released besides restoration of their lawful executive powers with immediate effect.

Briefly talking to media here this evening after chairing a high level meeting with the District Nazims, he said that unfortunately in past their development funds were frozen without any lawful justification and plausible reason.

He said that Punjab government will fully support the Local Government System and strengthen the District Nazims throughout the province who are also elected representatives of the people of their respective areas.He said that the office of the District Nazim is non political forum and we will maintain its prestige as defined in the law of the land.

Governor said that all Commissioners and District Co-ordination Officers have also been directed to respect the DNs and facilitate them for execution of their development projects mainly aimed at the quick welfare of the poor segment of the society. He said that in past only 22 per cent of total developments funds were spent in Punjab.
