Militants blow up NATO supply bridge in Jamrud
Updated at: 1925 PST,  Tuesday, February 03, 2009
Militants blow up NATO supply bridge in Jamrud PESHAWAR: Suspected militants have blown up a bridge in Tehsil Jamrud of Khyber Agency on Tuesday, cutting the main NATO supply route in Afghanistan.

According to sources, all traffic along the route is suspended and people are forced to cover the distance on foot.

A government official informed that the militants started attacking the crucial NATO supply route into landlocked Afghanistan last year to deprive the Western forces of fuel and other supplies trucked in from Pakistan.

National Highway Authority (NHA) officials have assured the people that work on an alternate route would be completed by Wednesday whereas construction of the destroyed bridge would be undertaken soon.
