Afghanistan will be 'much tougher' than Vietnam: Holbrooke
Updated at: 1736 PST,  Sunday, February 08, 2009
Afghanistan will be  MUNICH: The situation is far tougher in Afghanistan than Vietnam’s war, US President Barack Obama's new envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke said on Sunday.

"I have never seen anything like the mess we have inherited," Holbrooke said at an international security conference in Germany. "It is like no other problem we have confronted, and in my view it's going to be much tougher than Vietnam."

“I will work with General Petraeus to overcome the problem of corruption in Afghanistan,” he hoped.

It may be mentioned here that Holbrooke is due to arrive in Pakistan tomorrow on a two-day visit. He will hold separate meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and other top officials.
