 31 Indian fishermen nabbed over encroaching limits

 KARACHI: The Maritime Security Agency (MSA) has apprehended 31 Indian fishermen late on Saturday and seized 5 fishing vessels for alleged violation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Pakistan in the Arabian Sea.

Maritime Security Agency spokesman Let. Commander Shakeel Ahmed Khan told geo news that the Indian fishermen and their five fishing vessels were caught by the Maritime Security Agency when they were fishing illegally on Eastern side of the Pakistani EEZ.

He said the Indian fishermen were being brought to the Karachi harbour for further investigation and their subsequent handing over to the local police.

According to MSA officials, 31 fishermen belonged to Indian province Gujarat who set off for fishing some six days ago.

Four amid them were said to be Muslims while 27 were Hindus while major among held fishermen had been caught by Pakistani forces in past, officials added.
