 LB elections date extended
Updated at: 0338 PST,  Monday, March 22, 2010
LB elections date extended KARACHI: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have agreed on 45-day extension in the date of Local Bodies elections, Geo News reported Sunday.

Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan has promulgated the Ordinance to this effect.

This was decided in a meeting attended by Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat ul Ebad, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

Earlier, meeting between the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) reportedly remained inconclusive, as both parties were not willing to concede their ground on the local bodies system.

The MQM insisted on continuing the SLGO-2001 with some amendments, while the PPP, PML-F and ANP remained in favour of restoring LG system of 1979 with some amendments.
