NEW DELHI: India’s new poll panel boss Navin Chawla will take over as Chief Election Commissioner on April 21. The President's House made an announcement in this regard.
On BJP's complaint, the outgoing CEC N Gopalaswami wanted Chawla sacked for political bias. But refuting the call, the Congress in turn charged Gopalaswami of acting on BJP's behalf.
Gopalaswami had accused Chawla of delaying UP and Karnataka Assembly elections to favour the Congress. But the Law Ministry dismissed it by saying that the controversy was a personal conflict between the two.
