Updated at: 0249 PST,  Saturday, March 06, 2010
LALA MUSA: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Friday said the government was committed to repeal the 17th Amendment of the Constitution.

“A draft regarding constitutional reforms will be presented in the constitutional parliamentary committee to introduce the 18th Amendment by March 23,” he said while talking to media at Dera Kaira.

He said the PPP government believed in providing basic amenities of life to common man at cheaper rates for which a comprehensive planning was being carried out.

Kaira said the unrest and price hike was the result of war on terrorism in the country and added measures were being taken on war footing to overcome the challenges facing the country. The international community was supporting Pakistan in the war against terrorism, he added.

“The government believes in media freedom as we have rendered sacrifies for this purpose but some channels and specific anchor persons want to run the government affairs according to their view point,” he said.

The Minister said every positive suggestion and critisim of print and electronic media would be welcomed but they should criticize the government keeping in view the problems being faced by it.
