ISLAMABAD: A full-scale emergency exercise "Air X-09", jointly conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in collaboration with various bodies was held Wednesday here at the Benazir Bhutto International (BBI) airport. CAA being the signatory of ICAO Conventions is bound to implement the standards and recommended practices to ensure safe and smooth airport operations and this exercise was one step to achieve the ICAO Convention standards. This exercise is held every year to check the performance of all the concerned departments including, Pakistan Air Force, CDA, Rescue 1122, District Hospital Rawalpindi, Military Hospital Rawalpindi, Polyclinic Hospital, Edhi Welfare Trust and PIA in the field of relief and rescue if any emergency at the airport arises. A mock scene was created at the airport by setting some material ablaze to check the response time of Fire Brigade. Later, the false injured passengers were rescued from PIA's 777 aircraft and shifted to the ambulances for their onward shifting to the hospitals. An especially designed helicopter also took part in the rescue operation as air ambulance. Special Monitors to review the whole exercise were also present at the scene. Senior officials of CAA and other bodies taking part in the exercise were also present in the exercise. |  |
