Pilot error may have caused Polish crash-local spokesman
Updated at: 1441 PST,  Saturday, April 10, 2010
SMOLENSK: Pilot error was a possible reason for the plane crash that killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski and central bank governor Slawomir Skrzypek on Saturday, a spokesman for the Smolensk local government said.

"The pilot was advised to land in Minsk, but decided to land in Smolensk," said the spokesman, Andrei Yevseyenkov. The plane crashed in thick fog about 2 km (1.3 miles) from the airport in the western Russian region of Smolensk.
