Pakistan exported 8.5M tons cement during first eight months
Updated at: 1513 PST,  Saturday, April 18, 2009
LAHORE: Federal Secretary Industries and Production Shahab Khawaja has said that despite problems like high mark-up and shortage of electricity, cement sector performed well with 8.5 million tons exported during the first eight months of the current fiscal year.

Addressing a press conference at SMEDA head office here on Saturday, the Federal Secretary said, "More cement could be exported, if we had sufficient transportation facilities." He said only one million ton cement was exported to India against the capacity of five million ton due to lack of sufficient transportation facilities.

To a question, he said, overall performance of industrial sector is likely to improve during the last quarter of the current fiscal year due to reduction in cost of doing business as a result of decrease in mark-up rate and comparatively low oil prices.
