Industries breakdown nears, as power crisis hits hard
Updated at: 1150 PST,  Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Industries breakdown nears, as power crisis hits hard KARACHI: The protracted load shedding is causing huge disturbances tamping down the industrial production, which has put the labourers as well as the owners of the industries on the rack, Geo News reported Tuesday.

The prolonged power outages have led to water scarcity as well. The people from Karachi to Khyber are alike afflicted with the problem.

A two-day conference is in progress in the federal capital to mull over the energy issues; but, the people do not hope anything positive from it, as they do not believe in the promises announced by Ministry of Power and Water.

The depressed people said, ‘We want electricity; instead, we are being baton-charged and tear-gassed in return.’

Sindh is tumbling under the crisis with 14-hour load shedding in urban areas and 20 hours of load shedding in rural areas.

Punjab is also suffering from the same grievous problem with power outages’ spans swelled eight to 20 hours.

Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw has been wracked with massive power crisis. The load shedding span in some areas exceeded 16 hours. In some areas, the span is 12 to 14 hours and in rural areas, the span is inflated to 16 to 18 hours.

The situation is not quite different in Balochistan, where the span of anguish reached 18 to 20 hours. While, the period of unannounced load shedding in the province’s largest industrial city Hub reached eight hours.

Meantime, the largest ship-breaking yard situated in Gadani is also facing power crisis; while, Othal’s Circuit House has no power altogether.
