 Nizam-e-Adl Regulation challenged in SC
Updated at: 1839 PST,  Tuesday, April 21, 2009
Nizam-e-Adl Regulation challenged in SC ISLAMABAD: A petition was filed Tuesday in the Supreme Court challenging the promulgation of Nizam-e-Adl Regulation 2009 in Malakand Division.

The petitioner, Shaid Orakzai, pleaded the court to issue a stay order to stop the Qazi courts from giving decisions about death sentence.

The constitutional petition said that the regulation was enforced in contradiction of the state religion and the Shariat-e-Muhammadi.

Orakzai further said in his petition that Qazis appointed under the Regulation could not meet the criteria set by Sharia.
