Taliban must lay down arms: Iftikhar
Updated at: 1906 PST,  Tuesday, April 21, 2009
PESHAWAR: NWFP Information Minister, Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Tuesday said provincial government had fulfilled all its promises including implementation of Nizam-e-Adl Regulation (NAR-2009) in Malakand division and now it was responsibility of Maulana Sufi Mohammad to force Taliban to lay down their arms.

In an interview, Iftikhar said, government has fulfilled all its promises and if they (Taliban) retreat than the government will use other available option".

He said the government adopted a policy of reconciliation and dialogue to settle issues despite immense domestic and international pressure. He said the government would take action if writ of the government is challenged and arms are not laid down.

The minister said Maulana Sufi Mohammad's role was very important in disarming Taliban.

He said after the implementation of Nizam-e-Adl, there was no question of keeping weapons and continuing armed struggle.
