LOS ANGELS: Last month, Kara Tointon’s world was rocked by rumours that she’d split up with her boyfriend Joe Swash after he was caught flirting with other girls.
But the actress – who met Joe on the EastEnders set when he played her cheeky on-screen brother Mickey Miller - has hit back at the claims and insists she’s still very much with her former co-star.
Kara, 26 – who has been dating Joe for almost two years - told Closer: “I wish people would stop speculating about my relationship. I’m still going out with Joe and we’re really happy.
“We’re not planning any holidays at the moment because we’re both working – but everything’s fine.”
And the star – who’s currently launching Echo Falls’ latest Pinot Grigio Spritz campaign - says they love chilling out and watching TV in her London flat.
She laughed: “I’m a huge fan of Come Dine With Me – I think it’s hilarious. Sometimes I find myself sitting in on a Sunday watching the whole series back to back!”
After playing EastEnders’ feisty Dawn Swann for four years, Kara quit the hit soap last year – but she still misses the cast.
She said: “Charlie Hawkins played my half brother Darren Miller and he’s like a brother to me in real life. I speak to him on the phone every day. Tiana Benjamin is also one of my best friends.
“Being on the show changed my life and it was like being part of a family. At the moment, I’m just auditioning for different roles but in 10 years I love to go back to Albert Square.
“Ideally I’d like to do a musical now. I love singing and I’m currently having voice training lessons.”
Slim line Kara admits during her stint in EastEnders, she felt her weight creeping up but now she works hard to maintain her size 8 figure.
She said: “You always know your own body and after being in EastEnders for two years, I got a bit lazy. I’d use the fact that I never really knew my schedule until the last minute to avoid the gym.
“I decided to get fit again recently so now I work out a lot. I love it.
I train about four times a week and I always do something different with my personal trainer to keep it interesting.
When I’m not active I actually get a bit moody!”
And the Ultimo model – who says she’s got a celeb crush on Ashton Kutcher - admits she’s not a fan of strict diets.
She added: “Staying in shape isn’t rocket science – being fit and eating in moderation is the recipe for a healthy lifestyle. You can’t worm out of it and I love food too much to starve myself.
“For breakfast I usually have porridge or two Hob Nobs with a banana on top, a panini or Sushi for lunch and then it’s fish and rice for dinner. Like any girl, I love a glass of wine when I goes out!” | |
