TOKYO: A cup of tea can lower the risk of nightmares, research from Japan shows. It can reduce anxiety and stress.
Tea is believed to help by reducing levels of anxiousness and stress - it's thought the amino acid the anine, which is found in tea leaves, has a calming effect on the brain, according to researchers at Nihon University School of Medicine in Japan.
The study which was based on 1,000 men and women - found that women had an 80 per cent higher risk of nightmares.
Additionally, people who went to bed before midnight, and those who woke up before 6.30am, were at higher risk, too, although it's not clear why.
