Country’s wheat produce likely 24 mln tonnes this year KARACHI: The total produce of wheat in the current fiscal is expected at 24 mln tonnes which is higher than demand.

According to the figures in report of foreign agriculture service of US ministry of agriculture, the wheat produce is expected to rise by 11.8 per cent in the current fiscal due to favorable weather, healthy crop and increasing of wheat support price from Rs650 to Rs950 per tonne by the government.

It said this year around 9 million hectares of land were used for wheat cultivation which outstrips government’s target by 400,000 hectares.

Meanwhile, the Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin had put the expected produce of wheat to 25 million tonnes this year while the total demand would be about 23 million tonnes.
