KIMBERLEY: Dwayne Smith smashed four sixes in his 32-ball 47 to take the Deccan Chargers to 166-7 against the Rajasthan Royals at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Monday.
Opting to bat, the Deccan Chargers top order failed to capitalise on their brisk starts as the Royals spinners checked the scoring. Symond also chipped in with quick 30 runs.
Yusuf Pathan was the pick of the bowlers, picking three crucial wickets followed by R A Jedeja who got two wickets. Earlier, Deccan Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist won toss and elected to bat against the Rajasthan Royals at the De Beers Diamond Oval on Monday.
After flopping thrice, opener Herschelle Gibbs was kept out of the Deccan Chargers line-up. Dwayne Smith returned in place of the South African.
Chaminda Vaas got his first game of the second edition of the IPL as he replaced Ryan Harris. The clash saw former Australian team-mates, Gilchrist and Shane Warne, leading their respective sides.
