Gaza power plant closes for lack of fuel
Updated at: 0148 PST,  Monday, May 12, 2008
Gaza power plant closes for lack of fuel GAZA: The Gaza Strip's sole power plant shut down for lack of fuel, according to a senior Palestinian official, leading to blackouts across the Islamist Hamas-ruled territory.

According to Palestinian officials, the power plant has been shut down because Israel has stopped supply of fuel to the power plant for the last four days. The power plant caters to 30 percent energy requirements of Gaza strip while rest of the electricity is supplied by Israel and Egypt.

Officials said Israel was giving 120-mw electricity to Gaza while 250-mw was required. Israeli action came after mounting rocket attacks by Palestinian militants.
