KIMBERLEY: Deccan Cahrgers defeated Rajasthan Royals by 53 runs in an important IPL Twenty20 match here on Monday.
Chasing a rather difficult target of 167, Rajasthan batsmen could not resist against tidy bowling from Deccan and were collapsed on 113 runs in 19.3 overs.
Only Swapnil Asnodkar fought bravely to make 44 runs from 39 balls with six fours and one six whereas only two other batsmen could get into double figures. For Deccan Chargers, Rohit Sharma captured three wickets for just 12 runs and Chaminda Vaas claimed two wickets for 19.
Earlier, Dwayne Smith smashed four sixes in his 32-ball 47 to take the Deccan Chargers to 166-7 in the allotted 20 overs.
Opting to bat, the Deccan Chargers top order failed to capitalise on their brisk starts as the Royals spinners checked the scoring. Symond also chipped in with quick 30 runs.
Yusuf Pathan was the pick of the bowlers, picking three crucial wickets followed by R A Jedeja who got two wickets.
Earlier, Deccan Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist won toss and elected to bat against the Rajasthan Royals at the De Beers Diamond Oval on Monday.
After flopping thrice, opener Herschelle Gibbs was kept out of the Deccan Chargers line-up. Dwayne Smith returned in place of the South African.
Chaminda Vaas got his first game of the second edition of the IPL as he replaced Ryan Harris. The clash saw former Australian team-mates, Gilchrist and Shane Warne, leading their respective sides. |  |
