"The memorial exhibition will rely on material contributed by you," the project says on its website.
The centerpiece of the museum, due to be opened in two years near Ground Zero, will be a wall of victims' photographs "through which the scale of loss will be conveyed with immediacy and power."
The museum is meant to be part of a massive reconstruction plan at Ground Zero where delays in the rebuilding project have become a serious embarrassment for the city.
