 Writ of state to be established at all costs: Zardari

 ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday said government was fully aware of the difficult situation of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and was providing best possible facilities till their stay in camps and rehabilitation. He was talking to a delegation of parliamentarians led by Minister of Safron Najamuddin Sheikh and Malik Azmat Khan MNA, Hidayatullah Khan MPA, Mehmood Zeb MPA, M Zamir Khan MPA and Zakirullah Khan MPA here at the President House.

The President reiterated his resolve to rooting out militancy and extremism from the province and said priority would be given for development of the province.

He said now the government was confronted with a new challenge and was pursuing the three R initiative of Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction.

The President said Pakistan was fighting the war for its survival and the military operation was adopted as last resort against the militants and extremists who challenged the writ of the state.

The President said that the entire focus was on the relief and rehabilitation of people displaced from their homes.

He said that elected representatives particularly from Swat and Malakand will be fully involved in relief and rehabilitation tasks and sought their suggestions for formulating plans and strategies for the rehabilitation of the IDPs.

The President said that all ministers must visit the relief camps and suggest to the government measures for the rehabilitation of the IDPs.

The President said that the internally displaced people had made huge sacrifices for the survival of the country and the government will do everything possible to rehabilitate them.

He said that during his visit abroad he took up the issue forcefully with the leaders of the countries who had assured to provide all necessary help.

The President said that he will shortly meet members and organizations of national and international business communities to adopt villages for rehabilitation and reconstruction on voluntary basis.

The President also directed that the registration of displaced persons and distribution of cash, food and relief goods must be done in an absolutely transparent manner.

He said with international support and marshalling own resources, Pakistan will soon be able to overcome the difficult situation.
