Updated at: 2130 PST,  Thursday, June 12, 2008
Sovereignty to be at stake, if nation doesn’t awaken: Nawaz Sharif LAHORE: The Head of Pakistan Muslim League (N), Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that President Musharraf has been misguiding the nation by saying that he had sent Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s case to the Supreme Judicial Council.

Nawaz Sharif said President Musharraf forced Justice Iftikhar to tender his resignation and later his case was referred to SJC. He said the whole nation had been protesting and demanding the reinstatement of deposed judges. He said it was unfortunate that lawyers struggle for the restoration of judges was still continuing even during a democratic regime.

Sharif said that President Musharraf would eventually have to go. He said nation should rise to the occasion and tackle this challenge. He said there was no room for PCO judges in the Supreme Court. The Head of PML (N) said President Musharraf dismissed a democratic government, violated the constitution and banished the political leadership of Pakistan. During the speech Nawaz Sharif pledged unflinching support to the restoration of the judges. He spoke vehemently against the president and PCO judges and claimed all sacked judges will eventually be restored.

Sharif also strongly condemned the U-S air strikes in Mohmand Agency. He said PML (N) would stand by lawyers in their Long March and struggle to restore deposed judges. He paid rich tribute to deposed Chief Justice, Aitzaz Ahsan, Hamid Khan, Ali Ahmad Kurd and other lawyers’ leaders. Sharif said he would leave no stone unturned till the reinstatement of deposed judges. Nawaz Sharif also paid tribute to media.
