Updated at: 1742 PST,  Sunday, June 20, 2010
Higher judiciary to be approached against Hijratullah’s acquittal LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Sunday said the acquittal of Hijratullah who was arrested in Manawan blasts case is a thing of concern and that the higher judiciary will be approached against the decision.

Talking to media men outside Punjab Assembly, Rana Sanaullah said ‘it is not a one-day match against terrorists that all the world will be witness to’.

He also regretted the release of Dr. Usman, alleging that he was ‘the mastermind of Marriot bomb attack’.

The Punjab Law Minister said Hijratullah could have been awarded 10-year sentence, as hand grenades were recovered his possession at the time of arrest from the Manawan blasts site.

He said the court has passed a verbal verdict to acquit Hijratullah. Therefore, a documented verdict will be awaited before knocking at the door of the higher courts, he added.

Rana Sanaullah furhter said that the Punjab government does not agree with the court’s verdict, terming the acquittal of the accused beyond comprehension.
