ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Babar Awan Saturday said it is his responsibility to help lawyers, calling them ‘an unprivileged lot’.
Reacting to the statement of Nawaz Sharif in which he alleged that Babar Awan is giving away money to lawyers to pit them against the Chief Justice, he said: “I am grateful to Nawaz Sharif for remembering me.”
He said the question of distributing money be put to Shahbaz Sharif, asking him who he (Shahbaz) gave Rs50 million to.
“My visits to bar associations are not being made covertly …. the Prime Minster has directed me to work more fore the lawyers,” Babar Awan clarified, adding, the money given to the bar associations does not land in any individual’s pocket.
He said he undertakes visits to the bar associations out in the open and extend grants openly. “It is my desire to make more such visits and do a lot more for the lawyers fraternity,” he said. | |
