 G20 leaders begin summit talks
Updated at: 0730 PST,  Sunday, June 27, 2010
G20 leaders begin summit talks TORONTO: Leaders of the Group of 20 developed and emerging nations opened talks here late Saturday, according to images shown on the official host television.

The 20 leaders were officially greeted at the start of the talks in a plush hotel by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper whose country is hosting back-to-back summits of the G20 and Group of Eight richest nations.

The G20 leaders were to hold two days of talks in Toronto starting with an official dinner. They will focus on how to shore up the fragile global economic recovery, and debate controversial plans for tighter financial regulation.

The G20 is a new grouping, first crowned with a summit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is comprised of the G8 richest nations plus emerging major economies, such as Australia, Brazil, China and India.

The Group of Eight richest nations -- Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Russia and the United States -- wrapped up their two-day summit earlier Saturday after talks in an exclusive lakeside resort.
