Mark Cavendish wins fifth stage of Tour de France PARIS: Colombia’s Mark Cavendish has won the fifth stage of the Tour de France on Thursday while Germany’s Stephan Schumacher is maintaining the overall lead.

The Colombian cyclist of British origin Mark Cavendish, who never won any stage of the tournament, won the 232km long stage for the first time.

Cavendish covered the total distance in five hours, 27 minutes and 52 seconds to secure first position.

The Spanish cyclist Oscar Frair and Germany’s Erick Zebal obtained second and third positions respectively

The 95th edition of the Tour de France will conclude on July 27 at the Chateauroux in which cyclists will have to complete 21 stages.
