Death toll in Kurram ambush climbs to 18 PESHAWAR: The death toll in firing incident on passenger vehicles in Kurram Agency has risen to 18 while two were injured.

Earlier, 16 people were killed while four others sustained critical injuries as they were on the move on different vehicles, when unidentified miscreants opened fire on them here in Char Khel locality of Kurram Agency on early Saturday, Geo news reported.

A caravan, comprising passenger vehicles, was heading to Peshawar from Para Chanar, central place in agency, under surveillance of political administration, when unidentified gunmen ambushed by resorting to indiscriminate firing through automated weapons, which resulted in killing of 5 people on the spot whereas many more critically injured.

Meanwhile, as the injured persons were being rushed to hospital, some succumbed to injuries on way while a few more died of their critical wounds at hospital, taking the death tally to 16 and leaving four wounded, hospital sources confirmed to media.

The victims are believed to be hailing from Para Chanar, sources told media.

MNA Sajid Hussain Toori has termed incident as an open terrorism, calling government for stepping up security measures for public at roads and open markets.
