First phase of operation in Hangu ‘successful’ PESHAWAR: The provincial Home Mninister Tipu Mahabat Khan has said that operation in Hangu would be over in a day or so after achieving the targeted goals.

Speaking at a news briefing in Peshawar, he said 10 militants were killed and as many injured in the operation in which helicopters and heavy arms were used. The security forces suffered no casualty, he added.

IG Police Malik Naveed was also present on the occasion.

The Home Minister said the local people extended full support to the security forces during the operation. He claimed to have established government’s writ in Hangu, while talks with militants in Orakzai agency are underway by means of Jirga.

He said there was no information about the whereabouts of government officials abducted in Hangu. It surfaced that the problems being faced in the implementation of peace accord were different from what had been perceived. However, these are being worked out, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, IG Police Malik Naveed said the morale of Frontier police is high. He said during past days many miscreants have been apprehended along with huge quantity of arms and ammunition.

He said NWFP Chief Minister would soon distribute documents of plots among bereaved family members of 440 martyred policemen.
