Strike in IHK against Ali Gilani’s detention
Updated at: 1736 PST,  Saturday, July 25, 2009
Strike in IHK against Ali Gilani’s detention SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, complete strike was observed, today, against the illegal detention of senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani under draconian Public Safety Act.

According to Kashmir Media Service, call for the strike was given by the forum patronised by the senior leader.

All shops, business establishments, banks and courts remained closed while traffic was off the road. Educational institutions are already closed due to summer vacations.

Talking to media men at a hospital in Srinagar, where he was brought by the authorities for treatment, Syed Ali Gilani said that his resolve for continuing the liberation struggle could not be diluted by arrests and torture and it would be an honour for him to die as a martyr.

On the other hand, an estimated two hundred thousand people participated in the prayers at Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar on Friday following the festival of Meraj-un-Nabi (SAW). They prayed for the early liberation of Jammu and Kashmir from Indian bondage.
