 Karachi receives showers; fallouts ensue
Updated at: 1842 PST,  Wednesday, July 07, 2010
KARACHI: The light to heavy showers in various parts of Karachi turned weather pleasant with massive traffic jams being witnessed on most of city roads and power outages in several areas, Geo News reported Wednesday.

The maximum rain 43mm was recorded on Shara-e-Faisal.

Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan directed the concerned departments to take up immediate steps across the province for rain-emergency.

He directed the officials of local governments, the KESC, Hesco, Health Department and other related departments to take up measures to cope with any emergency situation spawned by the lashing rains.

Sindh governor urged to ensure the drainage of water from the rain-hit low-lying areas and after reactivating the Healthcare Centers, provision of medicines to them.

It should be mentioned here that the spell of pre-monsoonal showers began in Karachi since past two days.

The traffic system was disrupted as a result of stormy rains that lashed parts of Karachi this afternoon. Most of areas suffered power outage, as soon as it started to rain.

According to the spokesman of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), at least 30 feeders tripped with no tripping of any grid station.
