 Sherry disapproves nikahnama initiative
Updated at: 2102 PST,  Thursday, July 08, 2010
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People's Party leader Sherry Rehman on Thursday expressed her reservation over the inclusion of eight new clauses in the nikahnama (marriage bond) by the Punjab government.

The PPP leader said that step would strengthen the organisers of forced marriages.

She said the originators of such designs are the people who do not want the women to have their due status in society.

She expressed the hope that the Punjab government would realise the real motive behind this step very soon adding this decision would ultimately be withdrawn.

Sherry said that the country was facing a number of challenges at present and some forces want to further aggravate the situation by instigating new issues.
