Updated at: 1451 PST,  Wednesday, August 11, 2010
Floods feared to spoil 4m cotton bales ISLAMABAD: The recent flash floods are feared to hit at least four million bales of cotton, leading to apprehensions that targets set for cotton yield could not be achieved this year, Geo News reported Wednesday.

The sources privy to the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture told Geo News that a satellite survey was conducted over the flood-rampaged areas.

According to initial survey, the cotton crops in Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur and Dera Gazi Khan were affected.

Sindh crops also will be satellite surveyed in coming couple of days.

According to the sources, it is feared that floods have impacted 4 million cotton bales. The cotton produce target, which was set at 14 million bales, has gone beyond acquisition.
