Pakistan will emerge stronger after worst floods: Zardari

Updated at: 1700 PST,  Wednesday, August 18, 2010
Pakistan will emerge stronger after worst floods: Zardari SOCHI: Pakistan will emerge as a stronger nation from the flood tragedy that has triggered a massive humanitarian crisis, President Asif Ali Zardari said on Wednesday.

"Pakistan will come out of this a stronger nation," Zardari said at a meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in southern Russia.

"We have... the capabilities, we have the people, and all tragedies always unite nations. This tragedy will again unite us."

Torrential monsoon rain in Pakistan caused catastrophic floods which have affected 20 million, wiped out villages, farmland, infrastructure and killed at least 1,400 people in the nation's worst natural disaster.

Zardari was in Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi for a brief summit meeting with Medvedev and Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
